HSI Sensing provides a surface mount sensor that can be installed on the circuit boards of servers to detect when a hard drive is locked in place.
The customer was seeking a manufacturer that offer a micro miniature, surface mount proximity sensor for their server installations. Server farms around the world house hundreds of thousands of hard drives and these hard drives can be “hot swapped,” meaning they can be inserted and taken out of severs within seconds. It is critical to the integrity and security of these assets that all these movements be monitored.
HSI Sensing provided a surface mount sensor that can be installed on the circuit board of the servers to detect when a hard drive is locked in place. When the locking clamps are released the sensor sends a signal to automatically backup information on the hard drive before it is removed.
Making The Connection
This server application utilized the HSR-003 with surface mount tabs and was potted in a white housing. As the project grew and we expanded our over molding capability, the customer was transitioned to the HSR-0025 over molded sensor – the PRX+2454.
At the time of this engagement, HSI Sensing was the only manufacturer at the time to offer a micro miniature, surface mount proximity sensor. Today, our advancements are still unmatched.
